Table of Contents

Learning a second language is considered necessary within an increasingly connected and developing world. And traveling the world demands the acquisition of multilingual skills.

Consider Japanese if you’re still not sure what language to choose since it will make you stand out from the competition. In Asian languages, the most significant addition to your resume is the Japanese language, trailed by Chinese and Korean.

And if you are considering relocating to Japan for work. It is fundamental to have a firm grasp of the Japanese language.

What Is Japanese Language Certification?

A Japanese certification course is considered an internationally recognized standard for Japanese language proficiency. To get your certification, you must clear JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test).

JLPT was established in 1984 for worldwide Japanese language learners. In the JLPT, there are presently 5 levels (N5 to N1) as contrasted to 4 levels in 2009 (N1). The basic certification among these is N5, while the highest level is N1.

Importance Of Japanese Language Certification

JEES (Japan Educational Exchanges and Services) conducts the exam in Japan. In contrast, the JF (Japan Foundation) conducts testing abroad with the assistance of local institutions.

The most popular test for Japanese language certification is JLPT. Since the exam is specifically designed for non-native Japanese speakers, the majority of corporations, public and private educational institutions, and governments accept it.

Your JLPT examination results will be useful if you’re seeking work or intend to study in Japan.

  1. According to the government’s “Point-based Preferential Immigration Treatment System for Highly Skilled Foreign Professionals,” you can increase your score by 15 and 10 points for the JLPT N1 and N2, respectively. You will be given preferential treatment at immigration if your score is 70 points or more overall.
  2. If a medical practitioner with an international license wants to take the national examinations for medical practitioners and other professions in Japan, they must first clear the JLPT N1.
  3. International students who want to enroll at Japanese institutions sometimes can do so by taking the N1 test.

Japanese Language Certification Exams

To qualify for a high-paying language career as a Japanese expert in MNCs or any Japanese firm, candidates must be fluent in the language.

To showcase their talents, students must pass the JLPT, which necessitates a strong Japanese language command.

Aim for N2/N1 if you want to pursue a Japanese career. Except for entry-level positions, I’ve rarely found a job that requires a JLPT level lower than N2/N1.

Initially, the JLPT included four levels (N1, N2, N3, and N4).

In 2010, a fifth test level was introduced, and new exam criteria were established. This resulted in the implementation of the updated exam pattern. The earlier N4 and N3 tests are replaced with N5 and N4, respectively.

The N2 and N1 exams are nearly identical to the previous level N2 and N1 examinations.

(i) N5 – It was created especially for novices. Candidates must master Katakana, Hiragana, around 100 Kanji (Chinese characters), their pronunciations and readings, 400–500 Japanese words, and the fundamentals of Japanese grammar.

(ii) N4 – As long as dialogues are spoken slowly, one can listen to, understand, and typically follow the conversation’s topic. 1500 Japanese words and roughly 300 Kanji are required.

(iii) N3 – One can follow a conversation’s general flow and understand the relationships between the persons engaged while listening, reading, and comprehending it at speeds close to the natural speaking speed. You’ll need about 600 to 700 Kanji and 3000 to 4000 Japanese words.

(iv) N2 – Level 2 indicated an even more significant increase in requirements. At this point, there is an increase in demand for 1000 kanji and 6000 words. The ability to converse in upper intermediate Japanese is recognized as level 2 fluency, and individuals who achieve this level may indicate it on their Resume.

(v) N1 – Level 1 is, as you might anticipate, the highest and most complex level. To pass this difficulty level, students must master a minimum of 2000 to 2500 kanji and more than 10,000 words.

FAQs

Which age is the best to begin learning a foreign language?

The capacity to acquire new languages is influenced by a person’s age, just like it is with any other language. But that just implies that everybody, regardless of age, may learn. Children and young people learn more quickly because they can better understand new sounds and accents. Adults learn more effectively because they have a greater span of attention.

Why can’t I just teach myself a foreign language?

You can pick up little knowledge from the numerous sources all around you. For instance, you could pick up certain words from songs you’ve heard or from something someone said on TV. However, you would also need to develop your general, linguistic, and practical skills to become fluent in the language. The difficulty and duration of doing it alone would be five to ten times greater. By the time it’s over, there are no valid ways to judge where you stand. So, it is better to go for online coaching or a tuition guide to learn foreign languages more efficiently.

Does Curiotory cover necessary language skills?

By the end of the course, we ensure that you can write, read, understand, and speak the language. Grammar, vocabulary, conversational skills, etc., are covered at varying achievement levels in each language.

Why are online learning solutions the most effective method for learning foreign languages?

Since 2020, the world has become more remote. Even without the epidemic, it was only a matter of time until learning journeys adopted a digital format. Since studying languages will become more and more contactless in the future.  Less time is available than before for people to become skilled in it. They thus rely on websites like Curiotory to explore vacation and employment options while relaxing in their homes.

What is the best way to attend a session?

We’ve observed that a laptop or desktop computer makes learning far more convenient.

Are there any other recognized standardized Japanese exams apart from the JLPT?

Yes, there are numerous Japanese tests except for the JLPT. Examples include the Business Japanese Test (BJT), Kanji Kentei, J-test, and NAT-Test.
