The DELE exam, also known as the “Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera” (Diploma, in Spanish as a Foreign Language) is an acknowledged test for assessing proficiency in the language. Here are some important details;

Commencement; The DELE exam was initially introduced in 1989 by the Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain. It has been administered on a basis since.

Administration; The Instituto Cervantes, an institution dedicated to promoting language and culture worldwide is responsible for organizing and conducting the DELE exam. It receives support from the government.

Global Acceptance; DELE certificates hold recognition among institutions and employers alike as a trustworthy measure of an individuals competence, in the Spanish language.
Exam Locations; DELE exams are available, in locations ensuring candidates from different countries and regions can easily access them.

Structure; The examination comprises a variety of tasks and exercises that assess candidates language proficiency, in scenarios. These tasks encompass reading comprehension, written expression, listening comprehension and oral expression.

DELE offers a total of six different levels.

Level A1 – Breakthrough
Level A2 – Waystage
Level B1 – Threshold

Level C1 – Effective Operational Proficiency
Level C2 – Mastery

Level A1 – Breakthrough

The DELE A1 exam is divided into two main sections:

Group 1 (reading and writing skills):

Reading comprehension (45 minutes, 4 tasks).
Written expression and interaction (25 minutes, 2 tasks).

Group 2 (oral skills):

Listening comprehension (20 minutes, 4 tasks).
Oral expression and interaction (15 minutes).

The highest possible score is 100 points
Minimum attain 30 points

Level A2 – Waystage

The DELE A2 exam comprises various tests, categorized into two groups:

Group 1 (reading and writing skills):

Reading comprehension (60 minutes, 5 tasks).
Written expression and interaction (50 minutes, 2 tasks).

Group 2 (speaking skills):

Listening comprehension (35 minutes, 5 tasks).
Oral expression and interaction (15 minutes).

The highest possible score is 100 points
Minimum attain 30 points

Level B1 – Threshold

The B1 level exam consists of four parts, divided into two groups:

Group 1:

Reading comprehension test (70 minutes, 5 tasks).
Written expression and interaction test (60 minutes, 2 tasks).

Group 2:

Listening comprehension test (40 minutes, 5 tasks).
Oral expression and interaction test (15 minutes, plus 15 minutes for preparation).

To earn a diploma, you need to score a minimum of 60 points out of 100 on the exam, with at least 30 points out of 50 in each test group.

Level B2 – Vantage

The B2 level exam is divided into four parts, organized into two groups:

Group 1:

Reading comprehension test (70 minutes, 4 tasks).
Written expression and interaction test (80 minutes, 2 tasks).

Group 2:

Listening comprehension test (40 minutes, 5 tasks).
Oral expression and interaction test (20 minutes, plus 20 minutes for preparation).

To receive a diploma, you need to score a minimum of 60 points out of 100 on the exam, with at least 30 points out of 50 in each of the two test groups.

Level C1 – Effective Operational Proficiency

The DELE C1 examination is composed of four tests, which are grouped as follows (Group 1: Tests 1 and 3. Group 2: Tests 2 and 4):

Test 1: Reading comprehension and use of language (90 minutes, 5 tasks).

Test 2: Listening comprehension and use of language (50 minutes, 5 tasks).

Test 3: Integrated skills. Listening comprehension and written expression and interaction (80 minutes, 2 tasks).

Test 4: Integrated skills. Reading comprehension and oral expression and interaction (20 minutes) (with an additional 20 minutes for preparation).

The maximum achievable score is 100 points, and to receive an overall “passing” grade, you need to obtain a minimum of 30 points in each of the two test groups.

Level C2 – Mastery

The DELE C2 exam is structured around three tests:

Test 1: This includes assessing your use of language, as well as your reading and listening comprehension skills. It takes approximately 105 minutes and consists of 6 tasks.

Test 2: Here, you’ll demonstrate integrated skills in listening and reading comprehension, along with written expression and interaction. This test lasts for around 150 minutes and involves 3 tasks.

Test 3: This focuses on integrated skills too, but this time it’s centered on reading comprehension and oral expression and interaction. You’ll have 20 minutes for this part, with an additional 30 minutes for preparation.

The maximum score attainable on the exam is 100 points, and you must secure at least 60% on each test, with a minimum score of 20 points in all three tests.

To register for the offline option, you must personally visit their office in Delhi and complete the registration process in person.

Step 1 :- To get registered, simply send an email to cenndel@cervantes.es, requesting the details. They’ll promptly reply with all the information you need. This will include their bank account details for paying the exam fee and a form where you can fill in your personal information.

Step 2:- It is very important to fill out the Registration form  with all the correct information including the mother tongue and the postal address before and after the exam.

Step 4 :- They’ll be sending you an admin card for the exam, which will tell you your assigned exam center.
