History
The Cervantes Institute was established in 1991 by the Spanish government as a worldwide nonprofit organization dedicated to the works of Miguel de Cervantes. One of the most important figures in the history of Spanish literature and the author of Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes (1547–1616), is the name of this town. The Cervantes Institute, a government body, is the world’s largest organization for promoting Spanish language and culture research and education.
With 88 centers dedicated to Spanish and Hispanic American culture and language, this organization has spread to 45 nations. According to Article 3 of Law 7/1991, enacted on March 21 by the Instituto Cervantes, the institute’s ultimate goals are to promote Spanish language education globally, support methods and activities that aid in Spanish language education, and contribute to Spanish and Hispanic American cultures’ advancement throughout non-Spanish-speaking countries.

The Instituto Cervantes Delhi is situated directly adjacent to Connaught Place in the center of the Indian capital. Syllabus
The Instituto Cervantes has its own syllabus for teaching universal, well-spoken Spanish while respecting the diversity of Spanish-speaking communities. A variety of teaching methods are employed, including the use of the most current technology. To comply with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the Institute is currently revising its curricula (CEFR).
The CEFR, an initiative of the European Council, intends to bring about greater standardization and openness in studying foreign languages among EU member states.
This way, people within member countries can move more freely, other member countries can recognize language credentials, and educational institutions from different countries can work together more effectively. The Framework can determine a person’s degree of language proficiency in terms of communicative proficiency, active and receptive abilities, and language proficiency for specific purposes.
Learners of languages are grouped into three broad groups, each of which is further broken into six levels, according to the CEFR.
A. Basic User
- A1 (Breakthrough)
- A2 (Waystage)
B. Independent User
- B1 (Threshold)
- B2 (Vantage)
C. Proficient User
- C1 (Effective Operational Proficiency)
- C2 (Mastery)

Although Instituto Cervantes’ courses are generally of high quality, the high cost and lengthy duration work against them.
Three years and a price tag of around 3-4 Lakhs are required to acquire DELE C1.

Instituto Cervantes is a non-profit organization. The Spanish government created it to enhance the study of Spanish culture and traditions.
Self-guided courses for levels A1 through C1 are available on their website. A total of 48 topics are covered in 16 30-hour courses, each having videos, reading content, and interactive exercises. Access to courses is limited to three months, and 10-hour lessons are limited to only three weeks.

DELE ( Diplomas in Spanish )
Instituto Cervantes, on behalf of Spain’s Ministry of Education and Professional Development, provides DELE Diplomas of Spanish.
The CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference for Languages offers exams ranging from level A1 to C2, and candidates can select the level at which they want to sit for the exam.
Instituto Cervantes publishes an annual schedule of requests for DELE Exam Centers, where students can take the four printed examinations that make up each exam.
Candidate results are released on the DELE Diplomas of Spanish online within three months, and candidates have restricted access to print out their certificate of achievement.
The National Coinage and Stamp Factory will publish an official diploma for those who passed (Royal Mint of Spain).
The DELEs are recognized around the world and have an indefinite validity period. The globally recognized DELE credential certifies their skill level as long as a candidate has studied Spanish.
SIELE (Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española)
The SIELE certifies proficiency in the Spanish language for both native speakers and those who speak Spanish as a second language.
Because of the involvement of the Instituto Cervantes (IC), UNAM, the University of Salamanca (USAL), and the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), as well as several other Spanish-speaking institutions, the program has a significant emphasis on regional dialects.
Complete exams or even partial exams can be completed to certify certain sets of language skills.
A computerized testing system is used to administer all exams and administrative tasks, allowing candidates flexibility in scheduling.
Candidates will receive their results in three weeks at the most, and they will be able to print certificates or reports using the offered software, which will be valid for five years.
Different Tests Under SIELE Exam
The candidate might choose to take all three modalities or only one.
A three-hour, fifteen-minute respite is given following the LC test in the SIELE Global exam’s specified order of exams (RC, LC, WIE, OEI). It consists of four distinct examinations that cover all aspects of Spanish language proficiency:
1. Reading comprehension test (RC)
5 exercises and a total of 38 questions comprise this test. Applicants must be able to read a wide range of texts, both in terms of subject matter and difficulty level. A 60-minute time limit is in effect for this test. There is no human intervention in the scoring process, and the highest possible score is 250.
2. Listening comprehension test (LC)
38 questions are included in this test’s six objectives. The texts that the candidates will hear cover a wide range of subjects and difficulty levels. This test has a maximum time limit of 55 minutes. The maximum possible score is 250 points.
3. Written expression and interaction test (WEI)
In this test, candidates must produce two texts in accordance with the instructions provided, each of which consists of a different task. This test has a maximum time limit of 50 minutes. There are 250 points to be earned in this test, which SIELE-accredited scorers score.
4. Oral expression and interaction test (OEI)
Candidates must record their responses to several questions and give two oral presentations during this test, which consists of five assignments in total. This test can be completed in 15 minutes, the maximum time allowed. Accredited SIELE scorers analyze the answers to this test, which have a maximum score of 250 points, and save them.
The candidate may examine his Spanish competency in certain competencies while deciding on independent modalities. Then he has the option of choosing from five different options:
- S1 Reading + Listening comprehension
- S2 Written expression and interaction + Reading comprehension
- S3 Oral expression and interaction + Listening comprehension
- S4 Interaction test and Oral expression
- S5 Oral expression and interaction + Written expression and interaction
Enrolment Procedure
- To register for a class, bring a completed application to the registration office. The reception desk and this page on the official website have copies of these forms.
- Each cycle of enrollment at Instituto Cervantes is subject to a rigid set of deadlines. Students who enroll after the deadline will not be let in.
- A first-come, first-served enrolment policy is in effect. You can’t make reservations here. Even if the same level is being taught in two different parts, we can’t ensure that students from the same section will be paired together.
- Phone calls are not permitted for transactions.
- A general education course requires that students be at least 16 years old before they may enroll. The minor must present a government-issued ID to prove his or her age.
